The Landscape Mechanic & Shop Manager is responsible for keeping the company running by keeping the equipment running. This role owns the shop, the fleet, and morning readiness. You are not just fixing equipment—you are preventing downtime, enforcing standards, and running the backbone of operations.
If crews aren’t ready to roll at departure time, the shop failed. If equipment fails in the field, prevention failed. This is a leadership position for someone who takes pride in zero excuses and clean execution.
Maintain, inspect, and repair all commercial equipment
Diagnose and repair:
Commercial mowers
2-cycle equipment (blowers, trimmers, edgers)
Chainsaws & hedge trimmers
Handle welding, fabrication, and minor fabrication repairs as needed
Maintain organized tool inventory and enforce proper storage
Keep shop clean, safe, and operational at all times
Execute scheduled maintenance on all equipment
Perform oil changes and services on:
Trucks
Mowers
Loaders
Generators
Inspect oil levels daily
Log service dates and condition reports
Replace belts, filters, blades, lines, fluids, and wear components proactively
Maintain service history records for every piece of equipment
Sharpen and balance mower blades
Sharpen chainsaw chains
Sharpen hedge trimmer blades
Maintain cutting efficiency standards
Replace damaged blades immediately
Inspect trailers weekly
Maintain:
Lights
Floors
Hitches
Brakes
Ramps
Safety equipment
Ensure all trailers are DOT-ready
Track failures and schedule repairs without reminders
Run morning shop operations
Ensure crews leave ON TIME and READY
Enforce load lists and checklist system
Confirm all equipment is:
Fueled
Functional
Loaded correctly
Identify problems before trucks roll
Train crews on equipment care and accountability
Monitor parts inventory
Track fuel, oil, filters, belts, blades
Reorder before stock-outs happen
Eliminate waste, overspending, and downtime caused by poor planning
Daily shop condition check
Weekly equipment report
Downtime tracking
Repair logs
Cost control reporting
Root-cause analysis on repeat failures
Minimum 3–5 years working on commercial landscape equipment
Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic ability
Experience with fleet maintenance preferred
